Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leaking of urine. The two main types are stress incontinence (leaks with coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercise, from a weakened pelvic floor) and urge incontinence (a sudden, intense urge — part of overactive bladder); many women have a mix.

It is very common in women — linked to pregnancy and childbirth, menopause and falling estrogen, and age — but it is NOT an inevitable, untreatable part of aging. First-line treatment is usually pelvic floor exercises and behavioural changes. See urinary incontinence in women.
