Head & mind
Brain fog, mood changes, headaches, and sleep are among the most common midlife complaints.
This map links to guides by body area — it doesn't diagnose. If a symptom is severe or sudden, seek medical care.
Feeling several things at once?
That's typical in perimenopause, when fluctuating hormones can affect sleep, mood, temperature, joints, and more at the same time. To see the bigger picture, try the menopause symptom score or the hormone anatomy explorer, and browse all menopause guides.
Common questions
Can a body map tell me what is wrong?
No, and nothing that works from location alone can. Where a symptom sits narrows the possibilities, but the same spot covers very different problems — lower right abdominal pain is appendicitis, an ovarian cyst, or a hernia. This map is for orienting yourself before an appointment, not for reaching a diagnosis.
Which body areas should never wait?
Central chest pain or pressure, especially with breathlessness, sweating or arm and jaw pain. Sudden severe headache peaking within seconds. One-sided leg pain with swelling and warmth. Sudden weakness or speech change. Sudden severe one-sided pelvic pain. These are emergency-department problems, not appointment problems.
Do women's symptoms present differently?
For heart attack, yes and it matters. Women more often present without the classic crushing chest pain, reporting instead breathlessness, nausea, back or jaw pain and unusual fatigue — which is a documented reason women are diagnosed later and treated less aggressively.
Why does pain appear somewhere other than its source?
Referred pain follows shared nerve pathways. Gallbladder pain surfaces in the right shoulder blade, a heart problem in the jaw or left arm, an ovarian problem in the thigh. This is why a map is a starting point and an examination is not optional.
